Memorial Day Parade – Brick, NJ

I really dig parades. I was in the Middle School and High School bands so I probably marched in 7 straight Brick Township Memorial Day Parades at one point. Since that time I have probably made another 15 as a spectator. For the past 10 years or so the family has had a steady routine. Go to the parade and then proceed to the family BBQ.

I also enjoy watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. I totally dig when the large marching bands with some incredible musicians roll up and put on a hot number. Marching bands are fairly unique to the states (though not completely). I’ll save a post about that for another day.

In any case, while not nearly the size of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade the Brick Township Memorial Day parade is a very festive event. This year I was once again marching in it…thought not as a musician, but rather as a soccer coach. Both my son and daughter play for Twin County Soccer Association. A special treat this year was having the East Fairmont High School Busy Bee Band & Honeybees at the parade. They were a MASSIVE group and I think this is the first time Brick Township had an out-of-state band march.

It was great to see all of the youth baseball, soccer and lacrosse players, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the school marching bands and fire trucks. The day of course is about the Veterans. These are guys that are far more selfless than I could ever be and it is only right that we have day in their honor. Special shout out to these guys!
