The Stone Pony – Always Delivers

The Stone Pony in Asbury Park is legendary at the Jersey Shore . It is often said that it is the place that Bruce Springsteen built and there is something to that. In my youth I was in several bands (Slave of ID and Artists That Kill) that played a number of shows there. More recently I had an acquaintance from Spain come visit and one of the “MUST SEE” destinations for him while he was in America was the Stone Pony. The place has that kind of history and reputation.

I hit up The Pony on June 19th to go see one of my favorite bands, They Might Be Giants . Neither the venue nor the band disappointed. I’m not going to recount the set list, it’s just not my thing, but they did play an assortment of songs from their entire catalog. They even played a handful of songs off their kid albums. But every ‘Big Kid’ knew the lyrics to those songs as well.

After the show we headed to the Langosta Lounge also in Asbury Park.
There we had a few drinks and some really tasty appetizers. The atmosphere was really pleasant there was a pretty good vibe going.

Asbury Park was the place to be back in the 40’s and 50’s. It had seen some rough times more recently but any place that can offer you a Top Act like They Might Be Giants as well as some fine dining at the Langosta Lounge has to be appreciated!
