Summer Brew Beerfest in Island Heights

Summer Brew Beerfest in Island Heights

We could hear the band playing as we walked up to the entertainment area entrance, behind the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company.  A week earlier I got word that the Summer Brew Beerfest was going to be held on Saturday.  I checked out the website and spoke to the organizers.  They told me that there would be over two dozen beers, free food and a live band.  I had to check it out.

With a few friends we arrived at Island Heights around 7pm.  By that time, there were hundreds of people packing the sizable entertainment area behind the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company.  The entrance fee was $30 for all you can eat BBQ and beer sampling.  The grounds were set-up with large party tents covering a seating area, a huge mobile stage, and a BBQ/food area. Alongside the actual firehouse building there was a row of over two dozen self-serve beer taps.  There were the traditional domestic beers, imports, craft classics and craft specialty beers.

We hung out with our friends that we met there and ran into a few others while enjoying the sounds of The Big Ragu.  After a few hours of sampling just enough beer and eating a cheeseburger, hot dog, side salads, a dozen clams, nachos and a snow cone, we headed home for the night.  We had to wake up early the next morning to ride the Marty’s Reliable Lewis Morris Challenge in Morristown.  It’s a good thing too, since we needed to work off all the eating and drinking from this cool event.  I’m glad we got a chance to check it out and we’ll definitely make the Summer Brew Beerfest a part of our summers for the years to come!

  1. What was the brand of that Apricot Wheat Beer I was drinking? The taste was fantastic – refreshingly fruity apricot, without being entirely too sweet.
